Head of the Department

Prof. Raviprakash Tekchandani

Prof. Ravi Prakash Tekchandani is a Professor of Sindhi and the Head of the Department of Indian Languages and Literary Studies at the University of Delhi. He served as the Director of the National Council for Promotion of Sindhi Language, Ministry of Education, on deputation from April 2022 to April 2025 and from May 1, 2015, to December 27, 2018. Additionally, he was the former Director (Head of the organization) of the Central Hindi Directorate, MHRD, from December 9, 2015, to July 7, 2017.

Prof. Ravi Prakash is proficient in Hindi, Awadhi, Urdu, and English. He holds a Ph.D. in Sindhi from the University of Delhi, an M.A. in Sindhi from M.D.S. University, Ajmer, and an M.Com. From Lucknow University. He also possesses a Certificate and Diploma in Urdu from the University of Delhi.

Prof. Tekchandani has a wide range of academic affiliations, including memberships in the U.P. Sindhi Academy, the National Council for Promotion of Sindhi Language, the Faculty of Arts at the University of Delhi, and various curriculum committees for Sindhi for the U.P. Board, C.B.S.E., M.D.S. University, and N.I.O.S. He has also served as Convenor of the Advisory Board (Sindhi) for the K.K. Birla Foundation.

 His research guidance includes numerous Ph.D. and M.Phil. scholars on topics ranging from Sindhi language and literature to partition narratives and comparative studies of Sufism. He has authored five original books, including "Sindhi Lok Manyataon avam Sahitya Mein Ramayan" (2003) and "Saryu Se Sindhu" (2018). He has translated works from Hindi to Sindhi and Sindhi to Hindi, has done several transliterations, and has edited books to his credit.

 Prof. Tekchandani has been involved in numerous research projects on Sindhi proverbs, Sindhi life in Kutch, documentation of partition narratives, and Sindhi folk culture. He has received over 40 awards and honours for his literary and academic contributions, including the Yuva Sahityakar Puraskar (1998), Saraswat Samman (1999), and Excellence in Non-Fictional Writings (2012). He has also participated in and coordinated numerous national and international seminars, conferences, and workshops, and has presented lectures and talks on various aspects of Sindhi language and literature.
